Origin Story About Tolmans Auto
Mark and Jill Tolman were married in 1979. At the time, Mark was an over-the-road truck driver, and Jill worked at the bank. They welcomed their first child, Dainen, in 1982. It was then that Mark realized life on the road was not what he wanted he needed to be home with his family.
In January of 1983, Mark and Jill founded Tolman Repair, operating out of a friend’s pole barn. They worked on tractors, farm equipment, vehicles, and small engines. After a few years, they moved the shop to a building next to the Township offices on Lake Michigan Drive. That building is no longer there—it now makes way for the Allendale Fire Station. Driven by values like hard work, integrity, honesty, and quality, Tolman Repair quickly earned a reputation as the go-to shop in the area.
Through years of hands-on experience and training, Mark became known as the leading diagnostic technician in the region. As Allendale continued to grow and their schedule filled up, Mark decided it was time to expand. In 2003, they built a state-of-the-art automotive repair facility, our current location.
In 2022, Mark and Jill’s youngest son, Philip, purchased the shop, becoming the second generation to carry on the family legacy. Today, Tolman’s Auto Tech continues to uphold the same core values: family, connection, integrity, honesty, and quality.
